CEFR Levels

The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is an international standard for describing language ability. I use it here to help you understand your current English level and set clear learning goals. Each level represents a set of skills and knowledge that you can aim to achieve in your language learning journey.

Pre-A1

Class level: Beginner
Words you can use: 0 - 150
Words you understand: 0 - 300

"I can't speak English."

A1

Class level: Elementary
Words you can use: 300
Words you understand: 600

"I know some English. I can talk about my family. I can talk about my job or school. I can talk about my likes and dislikes."

A2

Class level: Pre-Intermediate
Words you can use: 600
Words you understand: 1,200

"I know more English and want to continue learning. I know some more complex grammar and I can read, write and speak in English."

B1

Class level: Intermediate
Words you can use: 1,200
Words you understand: 2,500

"I've been learning English for a few years now and I feel comfortable talking with native speakers. My grammar skills are pretty good, but I need to improve my vocabulary and pronunciation."

B2

Class level: Upper Intermediate
